This sign posting job gets an A for very clean use of masking tape. Whoever was in charge of this job at the Columbus Circle stop, a big pat on the back from me!
Extra points for the use of BINARY NUMBERS!! Very cool. For those who don’t know, that is the number 22 in binary.
Quick computer lesson:
010110
Each “1” in binary is really like 2 to a power. The exponent is the number of places from the right end.
So the first 1 is 4 steps away from the end - 2^4 = 16
The next 1 is 2 away: 2^2 = 4
The last 1 is 1 away: 2^1 = 2
16 + 4 + 2 = 22
Maybe that’s a super secret special code in the MTA directory. Or if you press the elevator button that many times, it’ll work.
It most certainly does not represent January 1, 2010, that’s for sure!
