The Cold, the Late and the Lazy
As all you New Yorkers know, this past Saturday was insanely cold- and somehow, whenever it’s super hot or cold the MTA becomes more unreliable than the classy National Inquirer. Knowing this, we prepared for our Saturday evening plans. Since on a normal night it would take us no more than 30 minutes from our apartment on the Upper East Side to the East Village, we left about 45 minutes in...

See what we mean...
From Pinzler:
I took a picture of this poster on the B train. Sorry if the smaller text is hard to read but the poster is meant to convey how “forward thinking” the MTA is by allowing third parties to create transit apps using freely available MTA data. The text of the poster asks people to “Search the web for ‘NY transit apps’ to see what we mean” …...

Send the NYT your subway rat photos
From City Room
Unfortunately, my iPhone doesn’t take great pictures of the “track rabbbits” from the platform, but it looks like they’ll get some great shots submitted soon. Then we can look forward to a riveting slide show.

The following is a critique of the MTA safety video:
Two questions: who is this weirdo in a suit and why is the audio so maxed out. But then, after he walks to the camera, he walks past the camera. Where is he going? Another room in the nasty A train? Is there a parlor or dining car I never knew about?
No… he’s just moving into a new position. All the while, the riders are...

MTA Splash
This is from Alice who writes on this rainy day:
I was prepared for the day’s rainstorm. I had my umbrella out and, while waiting for the M66 on the corner of 67th and Madison Ave., I stood beneath a restaurant overhang. I’m noticeably pregnant, so when the bus arrived, I took one of the seats reserved for disabled people near the front of the bus. All was fine until about a minute ...

This is a great little PSA that (humorously) shows how confusing it is to know when it is OK to pull the emergency cord on a subway train.
It stems from this NYT article.
What I particularly love about this is that they confront one of the many horrible signs the MTA thinks is helpful (or at least not worthy of changing). The “what is an emergency” sign underneath the emergency...

Annual No Pants Subway Ride →
Ah, the 9th annual “no pants” subway ride where a lot of people get on the subway and pretend everything is totally normal… without pants. It’s an amusing stunt and has been going on for nearly a decade. I was a videographer for the one in 2006 when, mid-ride, New York’s finest stepped in and handed out citations. That was exciting.
Meanwhile, it looks like a lot...

MTA will cut 3 of the 4 crosstown buses, late... →
Thank you, MTA, for not only making my daytime bus trips suck ass but also for eliminating the chance to have a shitty bus ride at night. The MTA has decided to fuck us just a little bit more by scaling back late night crosstown bus service. So if you need any of the following buses after 1am come July, you will be royally fucked and will either have to cab it or hoof it home.
